Director David Bruckner (“Hellraiser” 2022) will be writing and directing “The Blob” reimagining for Warner Bros. Pictures. This will be the third time this movie has been remade since its inception in 1958, which starred Steve McQueen. It was then remade by Larry Hagman in 1972 as “Beware! The Blob.” The next time was Chuck Russell’s 1988 film starring Kevin Dillion.

The original film centers around an amorphous alien lifeform that hits a rural Pennsylvania town and begins consuming everyone who crosses its path. Each victim causes the red gelatinous lifeform to grow and become stronger. Until it is powerful enough to pull humans into itself from all directions.

“The Blob” quickly became a cult hit due to its hoaky visual effects and B-horror aesthetic. It is still considered a quintessential cult sci-fi monster movie decades after its release. There was even a long-standing rumor that musician/director Rob Zombie would be heading up a remake.

Bruckner’s version of “The Blob” will be produced by David Goyer and Keith Levine of Phantom Four. Judith Harris will be working as an executive producer. She is also the rights holder and the widow of Jack Harris, producer for both the 1958 and 1988 versions. Plot details for Bruckner’s version of “The Blob” are still being kept under warps.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “The Blob” remake as they become available.
