The ‘Smoke’ Snoop Dogg is Giving Up Isn’t What You Think

Late last week, rapper Snoop Dogg claimed he was giving up ‘smoke’. Considering his pot-centric persona and the request to “please respect my privacy at this time,” people assumed that he was kicking chronic to the curb. Turns out the whole thing was just a marketing stunt, and his love affair with Mary Jane continues.

The singer has revealed the whole thing was to announce a partnership with Solo Stove, a smokeless fire pit brand. “I love a good fire outside but the smoke was too much,” Snoop said. “Solo Stove fixed fire and took out the smoke. They changed the game and now I’m excited to spread the love and stay warm with my friends and family.”

Most comments on his initial post were a mix between shock and support. While very few were upset that someone would choose to quit smoking wacky tobacky. The timing was odd considering Snoop had just launched a Best Buds Bags line through BIC with BFF Martha Stewart. The limited edition crossbody bags have a BIC EZ Reach Lighter for a latch and internal pockets for… storage.

The bags are an extension of an ad campaign the duo did with musician Willie Nelson for EZ Reach Lighters. These ads also incorporate a lot of pot-centered humor given Nelson and Snoop’s reputations. This new line conflicting with Snopp’s intentionally misleading announcement added to the confusion.

“We’re stoked to have a product so good, it even inspired Snoop to go smokeless,” John Merris, CEO of Solo Brands, said.  “As the most popular smokeless fire pit in the world, Solo Stove is all about bringing people together and creating a vibe that encourages you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your time with friends and family. Snoop, like Solo, is about good moments, and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more people to the Solo Stove family.”

While many are annoyed at being fooled by the new partnership. Others are appreciating the well-played ruse.  You can check out the new ad below:
