Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benicio Del Toro Want in for “Sicario 3”

Good news, “Sicario 3” is in the works. Even better news, franchise producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill plan to bring Emily Blunt (“Oppenheimer”), Josh Brolin (“Avengers: Endgame”), and Benicio Del Toro (“Reptile”) back! This may come as a shock to some since Blunt’s character is missing from 2018’s “Sicario: Day of the Soldado.”

As it stands, Del Toro is currently the most involved in the third installment of the franchise. Mostly because he recently starred in the Netflix original “Reptile,” which was produced by Smith and Luckinbill. But that’s not to say Blunt and Brolin aren’t still in on the action. In a recent interview, Smith confirmed that the trio would like to come back and wrap up the story.

“Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell…Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment,” Smith said. “But we’re keeping all the talent informed. They’ve stayed close to it. Like Trent said, the strike has just slowed us down a bit on this last draft, but I think everybody is very excited. Everyone sort of knows the framework of the story and is very excited to, hopefully, get our shooting draft in order very soon.”

However, even with these mega stars on board, that doesn’t mean “Sicario 3” will be smooth sailing. Blunt and Del Toro are blockbuster mainstays so getting their schedules to align may be complicated. On top of the fact that Brolin stars in the Apple TV+ series “Outer Range” tv shows, by nature, are time-consuming.

The other big hurdle is the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. So absolutely nothing about “Sicario 3” will begin rolling until a fair deal is reached with the AMPTP.

Smith and Luckinbill are keeping the details for “Sicario 3” hush-hush at the moment. But it’s pretty safe to assume it will be another thriller based on the ethics and morals of FBI officers working on the Mexican border while dealing with local cartels. There is currently no director attached either.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Sicario 3” as they become available. “Sicario” is currently only available to rent or buy via Amazon Prime Video. However, “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” is available to stream on Hulu. You can check out the trailer for the second film below:
