Netflix’s next new anime series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” got a new trailer during New York Comic Con (NYCC). We have to say this trailer makes the series look EPIC! It shows off so much, we recommend a couple watches to see it all.
“Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is created and executive produced by co-showrunners Bryan Lee O’Malley and Ben David Grabinski. O’Malley and Grabinski debuted the trailer during an hour-long panel on October 14th. They also confirmed Julian Chihi will voice the Katayanagi Twins, Kyle and Ken.
Fans of the “Scott Pilgrim” franchise should be familiar with the story, but here’s a quick synopsis for those who are not. Canadian slacker, Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), asks out the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). In order to date her, he must defeat all 7 of her “evil exes.”
Cera and Winstead are joined by the rest of the cast from the live-action movie for the anime. This new edition to the franchise comes nearly 20 years after O’Malley’s indie graphic novels were printed. It also comes 13 years after the live-action movie, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” Having the two mediums already in existence seems to have been a major help to the new series.
The animation looks clean and adds new depth to the story. The fight scenes are on par with several other anime series. We are clearly very excited for this new iteration.
