LAPD Perform Wellness Check on Britney Spears After Knife-Dance Video

The journey that Britney Spears has gone on over the last decade and a half has been one that has never been out of the public eye, which is perhaps part of the problem. Ever since her emotional breakdown back in 2007 nearly ever action she’s made has been critiqued to death. Even after the end of her conservatorship in 2021, she’s still being picked apart in the media regarding her wellness. And following a recent video she posted to her Instagram page, the LAPD performed a wellness check on her earlier this week.

    Britney Spears, her own Instagram

To set the story here, Spears will often make headlines for things she post to her Instagram, whether it be because of the state of dress she’s in, her dancing, or whatever else she might be doing. It invariably bring up discussions as to whether or not she’s mentally well. This is exactly the discussion that was had when she posted a video to Instagram that featured her dancing while holding two large, metal kitchen knives.

The post was later edited with Britney stating that the knives weren’t real and insinuating that the basis for the post was that Halloween season is approaching. Partially undermining that statement though is another video that was posted presumably after the knife dance, that shows Britney’s wrist wrapped, and what looks like a cut on her upper right thigh. Spears also stated that she was just emulating Shakira, who sported a pair of knives while performing at the recent Video Music Awards ceremony.

On Wednesday, someone from the LAPD’s Mental Evaluation unit issued a request to check on Britney’s wellness. Officers went to her home and spoke with her security team, who told police that the singer/dancer was just fine. The police seemed satisfied enough with this answer to where they left without speaking to Spears, who declined to address the police herself. It’s worth noting that this comes on the heels of Britney separating from her husband, Sam Asghari in August. This is the kind of event that could put anyone in a rough mental state.

At the same time this also raises a lot of questions about the perceptions we place upon people who have experienced mental health issues in the past. Just because someone has had mental health struggles at some point in time in their life, it doesn’t mean that all their future actions need to be put under a microscope. Then again, Britney probably knows that this kind of action would take place and she does have an upcoming book set for release. Any publicity is good publicity, right? Well, if that’s the goal at least. Regardless, if Britney is honestly doing well, constant questioning of her well-being isn’t helping anything.

But if you are going to post a video of you dancing with knives, at least make sure it’s between you, Sting and Kyle MacLachlan and involves the control of the spice, and the universe.
