Legendary performer Sir Patrick Stewart has a new book coming out. “Making It So: A Memoir” will hit shelves this October! Over his six decades long career Stewart, 82, has had countless offers to ghostwrite his life’s story but turned them down.

“That never interested me because I would tell myself, ‘If I’m going to tell my story, I will tell it. I don’t need somebody else to tell it with me,'” Stewart told Entertainment Weekly. But in May 2020, COVID-19 shut everything down and he found himself with a lot of downtime. Along with a new offer to tell his story from publisher Simon & Schuster.

“We had an agreement that if I started and didn’t like it or couldn’t do it, I would repay my advance and walk away from it,” Stewart explains. Fortunately, that didn’t happen and  “Making It So” became a reality.

The book will cover everything from his early life and humble beginnings in Yorkshire, England, to his accomplishments on the stage, to his on-screen work in “Star Trek” and the “X-Men” franchises.

“Every moment of working on it has been thrilling for me because it was a brand-new experience,” said Stewart. So much so he even considered writing about the experience of writing his memoir.

“From the moment that I was sitting right where I am now and raised my hands to start typing the first sentence I was lost, and I didn’t expect to be,” he explains. “It took me a while to realize how immersed I was. This will sound rather pretentious, but it would take some time for me to shift my head from my childhood, my teenage years, my first experiences as an actor, back to today and now and, what did I really want for supper?”

This isn’t really surprising since writing “Making it So” had to be a unique experience for him. Stewart has four Emmy nominations, three Olivier Awards, one Grammy Award, and one Tony Award nomination. Not to mention capturing the hearts of many sci-fi and fantasy fans. Writing is simply a new arena for him to concur and “Things are only impossible until they’re not.”

“Making It So: A Memoir,” will be released on October 3rd, 2023. You can preorder your copy now.
