Filmmaker Michael Mann’s upcoming “Ferrari” has received its first heart-pounding trailer. The movie will be a biographical drama about Italian car manufacturer Enzo Ferrari, played by Adam Driver.

In the film bankruptcy threatens the factory that Enzo and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier. Their volatile marriage has been battered by the loss of their son, Dino a year earlier. Ferrari struggles to acknowledge his son Piero with Lina Lardi. Meanwhile, his drivers’ passion to win pushes them to the edge as they launch into the treacherous 1,000-mile race across Italy, the Mille Miglia.

The star-studded cast also includes Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Gabriel Leone, Sarah Gadon, Jack O’Connell, and Patrick Dempsey.

Set in the summer of 1957 this upcoming film has no connection to 2019’s James Mangold-directed “Ford v Ferrari.” Which Mann served as an executive producer on. That movie is set nine years after the events depected in “Ferrari.” Focusing on a group of American and Swedish engineers trying to build a race car capable of defeating Ferrari’s team.

This is also not to be confused with Joseph Kosinski’s currently untitled Formula 1 racing film starring Brad Pitt. Which is also in production at this time. But this does seem like a great time to be a fan of racing movies.

It’s already being rumored that Mann’s next project may be a sequel to his 1995 classic heist film, “Heat.” With Driver also in talks for a starring role, but only time will tell if that comes to fruition.

“Ferrari” will premiere this week at the Venice Film Festival before receiving a wide release on December 25th, 2023 via Neon. You can check out the almost dialogue-less trailer below:
