Netflix‘s musical film adaptation of the comics, “The Archies,” will be streaming this December. The Bollywood adaptation set in 1964 and will follow the Archie Gang as they navigate the transition to adulthood. There will be a rock ‘n’ roll heavy soundtrack, which makes sense for a bunch of teens becoming adults. Though the focus of the movie will be on teenagers, this movie aims to offer something for all ages.

“The Archies” is written by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar, the team behind “Made in Heaven” and “Gully Boy.” Ayesha Devitre (“Gehraiyaan“) also had a hand in this screenplay. The cast includes: Mihir Ahuja (“Made in Heaven“), Dot, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Yuvraj Menda, Agastya Nanda, and Vendang Raina. The group will be tackling love and heartbreak, friendship, rebellion, all while trying to enjoy their youth while they can.
With “Riverdale” ending, this new take on Archie and the Gang is refreshing. A Bollywood version pulling from the comics definitely has enough to hook my interest.
While at a Netflix showcase in 2022, Akhtar spoke with Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater about the project. The comics hold a special place in Akhtar’s heart and she is super excited to be working on this adaptation. While she is looking forward to introducing these characters to a new generation, she still intends to keep the nostalgia of the original comics alive.
