As we know, James Gunn is currently working on casting for his upcoming “Superman: Legacy” film. The aim of course is to once again reboot the cinematic legacy of the Last Son of Krypton, with yet another actor in the role. Last week, reports were coming out of Warner Bros. Pictures about screen tests with the key contenders.

These tests includes those in the running for Clark Kent / Superman; Nicholas Hoult (“The Great,” “Mad Max: Fury Road“), David Corenswet (“House of Cards“), and Tom Brittney (“Grantchester“). And the current favorites for Lois Lane; Emma Mackey (“Barbie,” “Sex Education“), Phoebe Dynevor (“Bridgerton“), and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel“). Also, we should mention these tests included full hair and makeup, which means THE suit. All three men were brought back for a second day, but only Mackey was on hand as Lois to read with them. Sure, this could mean she’s the frontrunner, but it could also just mean she was the only one available that day.
Today, THR dropped some insight into the shortlist for another notable character within the Superman universe- his main foil, Lex Luthor. The criminal mastermind has had just as many films, cartoons, and television series actors as Superman, and is usually a key part in any early storylines for the superhero.

Two of the names apparently being considered as brothers Bill Skarsgård (“Hemlock Grove,” “IT”) and Alexander Skarsgård (“Tarzan,” “Succession“). They are the sons of Stellan Skarsgård (“Dune,” “Thor“), and brothers of fellow actor, Gustaf Skarsgård (“Vikings,” “Westworld“). We don’t know who else might be on that list, but Hoult *could* theoretically be on it if he doesn’t make the Superman cut.

“Superman: Legacy,” which Gunn will write and direct, currently has a release date of July 11th, 2025.
We’ll let you know what else we hear about this and other news.
