Ryan Murphy is Leaving Netflix Deal, May Rejoin Disney

Writer/director Ryan Murphy is looking for a new home. Netflix’s five-year deal with Murphy is coming to an end. And while there’s no new deal in place as of yet, Disney is talking with Murphy about rejoining them. The move seems fairly expected by onlookers, as this will rejoin Murphy with now-Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, Dana Walden.

Murphy has been responsible for some of Netflix’s most popular series. (Though things started out slowly with his “Hollywood.”) Eventually, Murphy found his flow, and created streaming hits like “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “The Watcher.” Though there are still those divided on glorifying serial killers. But given Murphy’s responsible for “American Horror Story,” it’s not a surprise.

Speaking of “AHS,” Murphy isn’t necessarily making himself look supportive of those that help make his shows successful. As the current season of “American Horror Story” and some of Murphy’s other shows are currently still in production during the strike. So much for solidarity. But signing on with Disney will bring Murphy back into the fold of old friends.

Coming into Disney’s ranks will reunite him with FX boss John Landgraf, another face Murphy has worked closely with. Landgraf is who greenlit “American Horror Story” and number of Murphy’s other projects including “Fued” and “Pose.” And the success of “Nip/Tuck” put FX on the map, so it’s likely Landgraf would love to rejoin Murphy for future projects. We’ll keep you apprised of Disney’s deal with Murphy should it come about.
