Actress Adeline Rudolph (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”) will star as Kitana in New Line’s upcoming movie “Mortal Kombat 2.” The new film will follow 2021’s “Mortal Kombat,” based on the legendary video game of the same name. This sequel will continue the story of a group of ragtag fighters who are well-versed in martial arts. As they defend our reality, known as Earthrealm, against threats from the Outworld.
“Mortal Kombat,” was released in both theaters and on HBO Max (now Max) during the pandemic and is still one of their biggest hits. So, it certainly seems like the story resonated with a lot of people. Rudolph’s character, Kitana, was fittingly introduced into the video game series in 1993’s “Mortal Kombat II.” Her deadly skills with steel fans quickly earned her a diehard fanbase, and she soon became a signature character in the series.
But Rudolph won’t be the only “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” alumni to star in “Mortal Kombat 2.” Her co-star Tati Gabrielle will be playing the role of Jade, who has a close bond with Kitana. The two are part of a deadly trio known as the Weird Sisters. A real stretch for Gabrielle and Rudolph who have never ever played sisterly characters before. Actor and consummate fanboy Karl Urban will also be a new addition to the cast, playing the iconic Johnny Cage. Jessica McNamee and Lewis Tan will be reprising their roles as Sonya Blade and Cole Young from the first film.
Simon McQuoid will be returning to the director’s chair for “Mortal Kombat 2.” From a script written by series newcomer Jeremy Slater (“The Umbrella Academy”). Production will be handled by Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Michael Clear, and Broken Road Productions’ Todd Garner. McQuoid and E. Bennett Walsh are also acting as producers.
