Bob Odenkirk Signs on For Season 2 of “The Bear”

Very few careers are as lucky to include a second act as rich and popular as Bob Odenkirk‘s. While he was known in smaller circles for his comedic talents, largely displayed on “Mr. Show with Bob and David” and as a writer for “Saturday Night Live,” it was his stint as Saul Goodman on “Breaking Bad” that made him a household name. With spin-off “Better Call Saul” having wrapped up last year, Odenkirk has been free to take on more projects, such as joining the cast of FX’ on Hulu’s “The Bear.”

“The Bear” is a darkly comedic-drama that tells the story of “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a highly talented New York City chef who has to help save his brother’s restaurant, back home in Chicago. Only problem is, his brother took his own life, making things a bit more emotionally taking than food service already is. He’s joined by a bunch of other cooks and chefs, in addition to his younger sister who also co-owns the restaurant. Little does Carmy know that things are worse than he thought they were with the business and it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better.

So where does Bob Odenkirk fit into this? Well, we don’t know yet; FX/Hulu hasn’t released any details about his prominence or part in the program, aside from noting he’ll be a guest star. The good news is Odenkirk is pretty much the acting equivalent of cream cheese; he goes well with everything. Or maybe that’s just our bias for cream cheese talking; point is his extreme versatility as an actor means he’s a solid addition no matter what.

Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul” finale AMC

One thing we can tell you is that we’d previously reported on Odenkirk sticking around AMC following “Better Call Saul” to appear in their latest dramedy series, “Lucky Hank.” The series was based on a book entitled, “Straight Man” by Richard Russo and details the life of a Pennsylvania college professor in the midst of a mid-life crisis. The series was eventually retitled to the aforementioned “Lucky Hank” and debuted on AMC in mid-March, 2023. Nearing the tail end of its eight episode first season, the series holds a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. As of the time of this writing, it has not yet been announced if the series will be getting another season.

“The Bear” season 2 debuts in June.
