Two-time “RuPaul’s Drag Race” champion  Jinkx Monsoon is joining the cast of the classic sci-fi series “Doctor Who.” The singer, actress, and drag performer will be the newest addition to Russell T Davies’ “Whoniverse.” They will be starring alongside Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Yasmin Finney (“Heartstopper”), and the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

The BBC has yet to release any details about the characters that Monsoon and Finney will play.

“I’m honored, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who,” Monsoon said. “Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew.”

“In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all.” Davies added. “Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again.”

This announcement comes only a few months after Disney+ struck a deal to take rights to “Doctor Who” outside the UK and Ireland. With this increased budget Davies plans to expand the “Whoniverse.” Including a spin-off starring Jemma Redgrave that is already in the works. Davies recently referred to one episode of the upcoming series as “one of the greatest things I’ve ever made in my life.”

Monsoon won season 5 of “Drag Race,” and then went on to be crowned Queen of Queens in “Drag Race All Stars” season 7. They recently completed a sell-out run of “Chicago” on Broadway where Monsoon made history by being the first drag queen to play the role of Matron ‘Mama’ Morton.

The upcoming season of “Doctor Who” will premiere on November 23, 2023. But you can catch up with older episodes on Disney+.
