Original “Scott Pilgrim” Cast Returns for Netflix Anime

We hope you are amply prepared to rock because Sex Bob-omb is back! Last year it was announced the 2010 film “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” was being developed into an anime. It’s now been confirmed that most of the original cast will be back to voice this Netflix project.

Michael Cera will reprise his role as Scott Pilgrim along with Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers. Other returning cast members include Satya Bhabha, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Mark Webber, Mae Whitman, and Ellen Wong.

“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” started out in 2004 as a graphic novel by writer and artist Bryan Lee O’Malley. The comic ran until 2010 and revolve around slacker Scott Pilgrim, his love life, and his garage band Sex Bob-omb. In 2010 it was adapted by filmmaker Edgar Wright, before the comics even had an official ending. The movie focused on Scott facing off against the seven evil exes of his love interest, Ramona. While the film failed at the box office, it later found its audience on home video and became a hit. In 2010, it was also adapted into a video game.

“One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim,” Wright said. “Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&A’s, remembrances and charity read throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project. Until now… Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also…well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”

Comic creator O’Malley will be returning as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer, along with Ben David Grabinski (“Are You Afraid of the Dark”). Wright will also be returning as an executive producer. Wright even confirmed the news in an Instagram post, in case fans thought this was too good to be true.

Science SARU will be doing the animation for the show with Abel Gongora directing. The series is set to feature original songs by Anamanaguchi, and a score from Anamanaguchi and Joseph Trapanese.

There is currently no release date set for “Scott Pilgrim The Anime.” We’ll keep you posted on updates as they develop.
