Dave Grohl Spends 16 Hours Smoking Meat for the Homeless

Musician Dave Grohl is once again the most wholesome man in show business. In the middle of the winter storms in Southern California, he showed up to a homeless shelter to prepare a BBQ feast.

The Foo(d) Fighters frontman arrived at the Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission in Los Angeles around midnight with some overnight gear and a massive meat smoker. Dave Grohl then spent the next 14 hours smoking ribs, pork butt, and brisket, while getting some cat naps in. Then he let all of the meat rest for 2 hours, so he spent a total of 16 hours smoking meat. While also making cabbage, coleslaw, and beans because what’s BBQ without sides?!

It is estimated he fed roughly 500 people in total. With the food going to 450 people in need, and 50 staffers for the mission.

Hope of the Valley CFO Rowan Vansleve shared a video about Grohl’s overwhelming gesture to his Instagram. In it the rocker states that he is “all in” for the shelter’s 350-mile run between Las Vegas and Los Angeles to end homelessness. With Vansleve casually adding in, “He cooked BBQ for hundreds [of] people living in our shelters.” Of course the Foo Fighters’ classic tune “My Hero” backs the entire video.

But this isn’t the first time Grohl and his massive meat smoker used their powers for good. In December 2018, he hosted an Eat, Drink, and Support event for the Los Angeles Food Bank. And just one month prior to that he smoked meat in support of firefighters battling the California wildfires.

Grohl better get in all the charity meat smoking he can, since the Foo Fighters hitting the road for five confirmed shows this summer, including the Harley-Davidson Festival. This will be the band’s first tour since the tragic death of long-time drummer Taylor Hawkins in March of 2022. The band’s new drummer is still unconfirmed, but we’re sure will do Hawkins proud.
