David Harbour Thinks It’s Time for “Stranger Things” to End

If you watch “Stranger Things,” then it’s likely you’re one of the many fans that absolutely adore Jim Hopper. Played by David Harbour, the stoic, reluctant father figure has become one of the show’s most popular characters. But Harbour thinks it’s time to say goodbye to the Upside Down. While “Stranger Things“ has enjoyed a good run, the actor is ready for it to be over.

Although bittersweet, Harbour has come to terms with the series’ end. “What’s funny is when I started the show, I never ever wanted it to end,” he said. “I think it’s a great show, even if I wasn’t in it. Now we’re almost nine years from filming the first season, and I think it is time for it to end.”

    Time to Leave the Nest?

David Harbour isn’t wrong. Each season has taken progressively longer to produce. The young cast are no longer children. They’ve far outpaced the ages of their in-universe characters. It’s simply time for everyone to move on to new projects, Harbour continued. Everyone has grown up, and they’re ready for new frontiers.

Not to mention, Harbour is feeling exhausted by his current responsibilities. Having to split time between filming “Stranger Things” season 5 and the upcoming Marvel Studios film “Thunderbolts” is tuckering him out significantly.

The Duffer Brothers won’t be letting the Upside Down go as quickly, however. The duo have a stage play and a spin-off series planned. Other upcoming projects include an adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub‘s novel “The Talisman,” as well as a live-action attempt at “Death Note.”
