Jason Derulo’s Robot Dog Backup Dancers Raise Questions

Jason Derulo headlined the TikTok Tailgate, a pre-Super Bowl show, alongside The Black Keys. His performance is raising some serious questions that no one expected to ask today. Namely, why is he dancing with robot dogs? Yes, the singer/songwriter was busting a move on stage next to human and robotic K-9 dancers.

Derulo’s performance happened right outside of the State Farm Stadium in Arizona. Super Bowl LVII featured the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Kansas City Chiefs to determine who is best at sports ball. (Kansas City won, 38-35). During his performance, Derulo and a skilled team of human backup dancers move around a cluster of robot dogs.

While they bear a striking resemblance to Boston Dynamics’ Spot robotic K-9, they do lack the yellow coloring we see with that model. These puppies were grey with red screens for their tummies. And while they were considerably smaller than their human co-workers, they were keeping up all the same. Honestly, I’m just impressed that no one tripped over them.

Of course, the internet immediately started to make memes and asking “why?!” Many are [we hope jokingly] speculating a conspiracy theory that this is how we all start to roll tech like this into our everyday lives. By just having it start showing up and no one addressing or acknowledging it.

We can only assume this is in a move to get on the good side of AI technology, “M3gan” hit some people hard. Either way, the staff at Nerdbot welcomes our new robot overlords.

Check out a clip of Derulo’s performance below:
