Owen Wilson Plays Bob Ross-esque Character in “Paint”

IFC just dropped a teaser trailer for the new film “Paint,” directed by Brit McAdams (“Tosh.0”). Star Owen Wilson sports a big perm and button-down shirt while painting peaceful landscapes. While the comparison to the late Bob Ross is undeniable, this is NOT a biopic, but something else entirely.

Wilson will play the fictional Carl Nargle, Vermont’s #1 public television painter. Though Nargle talks in a soothing tone about how it’s okay to feel “a little lost as we begin,” the plot soon takes an odd twist. We see fans treating Nargle more akin to a rock star than a public access celebrity. With women fawning all over him and his signature sandals.

The trailer quickly turns to the artist losing it all when “Painting with Ambrosia” hits the airwaves. Hosted by a younger artist who takes “paint to a whole new place,” Ambrosia Long played by Ciara Renée (“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”). Nargle is tearfully escorted out of his home studio before he is seen throwing green paint all over a wall of his landscapes. Slowly he begins to lose everything around him but he must fight to find joy out of the spotlight.

“Paint” also stars Stephen Root (“Barry”), Michaela Watkins (“You Hurt My Feelings”), and Wendi McLendon-Covey (“The Goldbergs”). It is currently slated to open in theaters on April 7th, 2023. Check out the teaser trailer below:
