Netflix just shared a new 17-second teaser trailer for their upcoming anime miniseries, “Gamera-Rebirth.” This teaser gives us several brief shots of the series, as well as showing us the fire-breathing prehistoric turtle monster, complete with glowing green eyes.

“Gamera-Rebirth” will be a six-episode Japanese anime series, with the hope of rebooting the popular fictional monster who has appeared in various films and adaptations since 1965. The show will follow Gamera as he faces off with various enemies to save a city in peril. Something we see a bit of in the teaser when we watch him turn to face a burning city.

Gamera made his debut in the movie “Gamera the Giant Monster.” Which was made in an attempt to compete with the success of the “Godzilla” franchise. Like his competitor, Gamera is also a fire-breathing reptilian giant, except he is turtle-shaped. Originally he feed off flammable and radioactive substances to fuel his destructive rampage. But around the 1990s creators, began to show him more as a gentle giant, who defends civilization.

Currently, Gamera has starred in twelve movies produced by Daiei films. The most recent of which was the 2006 film,“Gamera the Brave.” The new Netflix series is currently in production with no confirmed cast or release date. It is being produced by Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa, with Shusuke Kaneko directing. Kaneko has also directed three other films in the franchise, 1995’s “Gamera: Guardian of the Universe,” 1996’s “Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion,” and 1999’s “Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris.”

He seems thrilled to be heading up “rebirth” as well. “When I came up with my own idea for Reiwa Gamera and made a proposal, KADOWAKA had already started a new project, and it’s content that makes me think that’s what happened, so I can expect this too,” Kaneko said in a statement. “With that in mind, I would like to support the team from the position of a baseball commentator who has experience as a manager of the Gamera team until they win the championship and pitch again.”
