Jack Cutmore-Scott, Nicholas Lyndhurst Join “Frasier” Revival

Sitcom “Frasier“ is the gift that keeps on giving. With a revival on the docket from Paramount+, and star Kelsey Grammer confirming other original cast members would not be returning, we’ve been curious about possible cast and storyline. Two characters and their respective actors have been announced for the project; one we’ve seen before, another a newcomer.

    “Frasier” NBC Universal

Jack Cutmore-Scott (“Tenet,” “Dunkirk“) will play an adult Freddie. Reportedly, he will be a vastly different person. The last time we saw Freddy was in season 11, when he was going through a goth phase [ITS NOT A PHASE, MOM]. Somehow, despite his complete lack of physical abilities, the young Crane somehow became a fireman after dropping out of college. Now, Freddy is facing a series of troubles that have left him coming to his father for help. Keep in mind that a difficult father/son relationship was a hallmark of “Frasier”, with the relationship between the titular character and his father, Martin Crane, played by the late great John Mahoney.

Freddy, the son of Lilith and Frasier, is one of the few connections that the series of “Frasier” had to “Cheers” from which it spun-off. Freddy was not an active force in Frasier’s life after he moved from Boston to Seattle. The kid only showed up about once a season as he remained in Boston and living with his mother. Perhaps not all hope is lost then for Bebe Neuwirth to reprise her role as Lilith then.

    “Cheers” NBC Universal

As for the other character being added to the series, it’s a previously unmentioned college buddy of Frasier’s named Alan Cornwall. Cornwall will be played by British comedy actor Nicholas Lyndhurst (“Goodnight Sweetheart”). The character is a university professor described as “British, boozy, and larger than life” with an intellect “on par with Frasier’s.” Fans of the series will note Frasier attended both Harvard and Oxford. So the idea of a British college buddy is on track with the character’s educational history. This would also be the second noteworthy English comedian to play an old acquaintance of Frasier’s, as John Cleese played one on “Cheers.”

    “Frasier” finale NBC Universal

There is still no release date for the revival of “Frasier.” We do know it will be housed on Paramount+. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
