Amazon’s “God of War” to Faithfully Follow Source Material

“God of War: Ragnarok” has certainly made waves this year. It took home a number of wins during the 2022 Game Awards. And is one of THE games to play. With the announcement Amazon Studios is developing a live-action series, the hype train keeps rolling. Vernon Sanders, Amazon’s Head of Television, assures fans the show will be faithful to the source material.

“We do incredibly well with adaptations, from ‘Invincible’ to ‘The Boys’,” Sanders said. “I mean, we just covered so many of them, right? And so we know that there’s such a passionate fan base for God of War. But the thing that we’re always looking for is whether there is a real emotional core, if there’s a real narrative story, and I think [that’s] part of what makes God of War so special.”

The series will be created and executive produced by Rafe Judkins of “The Wheel of Time“ series, writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and longtime “God of War” mainstay, Cory Barlog.

Adaptations have an unfortunate habit of being twisted up to be more accessible to audiences not familiar with the source material.

We’ll just have to wait and see as to whether that remains true. Sanders praised the upcoming series for depth of themes and drama it already contains. “If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it’s going to be huge.”

Obviously, we’ll let you know what we hear about possible casting for this project. Stay tuned for updates on this and other news.
