BOY.
Amazon has OFFICIALLY ordered a live-action series adaptation of Santa Monica Studio’s popular “God of War” game franchise. This has been in the works for some time, and this morning, the streaming studio confirmed the greenlight.
Rafe Judkins (“The Wheel of Time“) will showrun. Mark Fergus (“Iron Man“) and Hawk Ostby (“The Expanse“) will write and produce the show. And yes, Cory Barlog will be involved as an executive producer.
“The series follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard,” a press release says. “When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”
So, this at least confirms the show will pick up around the 2018 “God of War” title.
No word on casting yet, but we’re hopeful Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic are involved some how.
Here’s hoping Bear McCreary‘s music shows up.
