Netflix Cancels “Warrior Nun” After 2 Seasons

Netflix will not be renewing “Warrior Nun” for a third season. This decision comes just over a month after season 2 was released in its entirety on November 10th. Season 1 first hit the streaming giant in July of 2020 and did well, since in August of that same year they already announced a second season.

    Netflix

The “Warrior Nun” series is based on the manga-style American comic character Warrior Nun Areala, created by Ben Dunn. The series follows Ava Silva (Ava Baptista), an orphaned 19-yer old who wakes up in a morgue to discover she now possesses superpowers thanks to an artifact embedded into her back. Ava suddenly finds herself as the chosen Halo Bearer for a secret sect of nuns, the Order of the Cruciform Sword. These nuns battle demons and other powerful forces on Earth. All while Ava’s abilities mean forces in both heaven and hell are seeking to control her.

Other cast members for “Warrior Nun” include Kristina Tonteri-Young, Lorena Andrea, Toya Turner, Tristán Ulloa, Thekla Reuten, Sylvia De Fanti, William Miller, and Olivia Delcan. The series was developed by Simon Barry who also serves as executive producer and showrunner. Terri Hughes Burton is a co-executive producer alongside Stephen Hegyes and David Hayter. Amy Berg was credited as a consulting producer.

I’ve just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun – my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/eZIBa4tJYm

Netflix is currently in the process of reevaluating several series for viewership vs. cost to produce for their renewal decisions. “Warrior Nun” season 2 spent three weeks in Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 for English-language series, only peaking at #5. It gained 26.22 million hours viewed but it’s biggest success was in week two with 27.74 million hours viewed.  But in week three those numbers dropped drastically to 11.97 million hours viewed, knocking it down to the #9 spot. While the show has a passionate fanbase that helped secure a second season, the numbers simply weren’t there to justify a third.
