Will Ferrell Played Cowbell with Son Magnus’ Band

Will Ferrell decided to lend his unique brand of musical genius to his son Magnus Ferrell‘s band at a special charity event. The show marked Magnus’ first public performance with his band, who opened for the Psychedelic Furs at an event to raise money for Cancer for College. The charity, founded by Will’s former roommate Craig Pollard, provides scholarships and educational aid to cancer survivors.

The younger Ferrell’s set featured a cover of Radiohead’s classic “Creep,” along with three originals. This included song “Back in Place,” a thumping piece of dance-pop full of funky bass and slithering guitar. After “Back in Place” finished, Will took the chance to sneak on stage and accentuate the groove with his signature instrument- the cowbell.

While cow bell might not cure cancer, it certainly does a number on a fever.

Keep an eye out for the elder Ferrell’s upcoming appearances in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie“ film, as well as a wedding comedy for Amazon that also stars Reese Witherspoon. You can also find him in “Spirited,” a twist on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” which co-stars Ryan Reynolds, currently streaming on AppleTV+. Keep an eye on Magnus too, this set sounds phenomenal, and we’re sure you’ll be seeing more of him in the future.

Check out a video of the performance here.

[Editor’s note: Will Ferrell is an accomplished drummer. If you’ve never seen his drum offs vs Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith, you absolutely should.]
