Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Ride to Close Next Year

Disneyland‘s Indiana Jones themed ride, The Temple of the Forbidden Eye, is set to close in early 2023. Rumors have indicated it will be getting significant updates and enhancements. These could include a major overhaul to the attraction’s overall ride system, most likely due to age and an anticipated increase in traffic to the ride. Considering how often it’s been down the last few months, this makes sense.

Opening in 1995, the attraction takes passengers on an adventure into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, booby traps and all. Riders inspect carvings and frescos that tell the story of Mara, a powerful deity who promises great treasures. But will also exact vengeance on those foolish enough to gaze into its all-seeing eyes.

The ride has interactive elements including enhanced-motion ride vehicles, special effects, animatronic figures (including an audio-animatronic of Indy himself), and [of course] the iconic rolling boulder. The attraction already underwent a three-day long refurbishment in November 2022, possibly in preparation for this much larger one.

According to a notice on the Disneyland website, the ride will close on January 9th until spring 2023. While additional details on the refurbishment aren’t made clear, it’s safe to assume the goal is to reopen the ride before the 5th Harrison Ford-starring film hits theaters in summer.

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” opens in theaters on June 30th, 2023.
