“3rd Rock From the Sun” Revival May Or May Not Happen

With the multiplication of streaming services has come the revival of several old series. From “Roseanne” to “That 70s Show;” even “Frasier” has a revival on the way (though with a paired down cast). But what about NBC’s “3rd Rock From the Sun?” Creators Terry and Bonnie Turner have apparently considered bringing back the comedic aliens. Will it happen? Well as of right now, the definitive answer is maybe.

The Turners have certainly had their share of success reviving popular properties from the days before streaming. Initially the duo looked at the idea of revivals with a skeptical eye. But, they’ve just revived “That ’70s Show” as “That ’90s Show” for Netflix.

There’s really no telling whether or not this will even happen. So don’t hold your breath. They’ve mildly considered a new location for the intergalactic quartet, having spent some time with John Lithgow in London while he worked on “The Crown” a few years ago. But ultimately, it comes down to whether or not there’s a story to be told with the characters.

“If the story is there, then it’s there. But you’ve got to be really careful about this stuff,” Bonnie said. She went on to emphasize their other revivals only happened because “there was more to tell.” Whether or not the aliens of the barred spiral galaxy on the Cepheus-Draco border would return to explore more of Earth is, quite simply, up in the air.
