Blizzard Submitted a New Deathmatch Map for Overwatch

Overwatch has begun testing a new Deathmatch map. It is called Malevento and is available on test servers. Initially, the map was supposed to appear in an online shooter in mid-August, but plans were changed amid a scandal of discrimination against women and harassment in the company. The level is a small area of the Italian town with the ability to fight both on the street and in local interiors. The developers also confirmed that the location hides the secret Talon base, and Malevento has a lot of dark secrets in the past.

Fans criticised Blizzard for releasing the map. According to fans of the shooter, the developers of Overwatch are busy with maps for deathmatch, while the game is in desperate need of new content like a seasonal event, a new character or a mode.

Earlier it became known that Blizzard plans to release a sequel to Overwatch before the summer of 2022. The main reason for setting a tight release date was the fear of dissatisfaction from the owners of the teams playing in the OWL – the release of Overwatch 2 will allow the league to “restart” and return the interest of the audience.

    Overwatch World Championship

Clubs participate in all of the above tournaments. They can be collected from players who represent different countries. Most clubs seek to invite South Korean e-sportsmen to their place. But there is a tournament in the world of OW, where players represent purely their country. It’s about the Overwatch World Cup.

This tournament is held once a year at the end of October-beginning of November. The American city of Anaheim, California, hosts the world championship. Teams are selected with the help of special qualifications. In total, 8-10 strongest teams in the world participate in the tournament, which defend the honour of their country. Naturally, the representatives of South Korea are the most successful in this. Out of 4 draws, they won 3. Another championship was won by esports players from the USA.

The World Cup is held in a standard esports format. First, the teams play in the group stage. The strongest get into the playoff semifinals, 2nd and 3rd places in the groups – to the quarterfinals. Then the knockout game and heated battles begin.

Dallas Fuel crowned 2022 Overwatch League Playoff Champion with $2.5M Prize Pool

The Dallas Fuel took first place in the Overwatch League 2022. In the grand finale, the South Korean team beat the two-time winner of the San Francisco Shock tournament with a score of 4:3. For the victory, she earned a million dollars.

San Francisco Shock member Kim “Proper” Dong-hyun, who also received Damage Role Star and Rookie of the Year awards, was named Player of the Season. Before him, no e-sportsman could earn such an achievement. This was Proper’s first season in the OWL competitive scene.

The Dallas Fuel became the Overwatch World Champion for the first time in its history. The roster also won the regular season of the league and the Summer Showdown tournament with a prize pool of $75,000. The San Francisco Shock earned $500,000 for second place. The Houston Outlaws closed the top three with $350,000.

Overwatch League 2022 ran from May 5 to November 5. The total prize pool of the tournament amounted to more than $4.2 million. Teams will switch to Overwatch 2 next season.
