Blumhouse, James Wan’s Atomic Monster in Talks to Merge

Producer Jason Blum’s Blumhouse label is in talks to merge with horror director James Wan’s company Atomic Monster. While Blumhouse built a name with lower-budget films they are currently under a first-look deal with Universal. If the merger goes through, this deal would also extend to Wan’s Atomic Monster. His company just concluded their first look deal with Warner Bros. Pictures over the summer.

While nothing is official yet Wan did say “We really do complement each other, yin and yang, which is part of what makes this so exciting.” So we know at least one party is thrilled about this possible deal. After merging, both companies are expecting to operate relatively similarly to how they do now. They will stay their own entities, though Blum’s Atomic House Monster has a nice ring to it. Both will retain control over their own creative autonomy and brand identity. Atomic Monster is expected to benefit from Blumhouses expansive existing infrastructure. This would allow the company to scale up its activities in film, TV, and new content.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster merging is really just to increase output from both sides. These companies are also hoping to expand into horror-related games, live entertainment, and audio. Keep in mind, Blumhouse currently controls the films/franchises “Paranormal Activity,” “The Purge,” “Halloween,” “Happy Death Day,” “Split,” “Ouija,” “Unfriended,” “The Exorcist,” and “Sinister.” Atomic Monster has series like “The Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and “Saw,” under its belt. There is no word on how much they can play in each other’s sandboxes, but the possibilities are awesome!

Plus we’ve already started to see this partnership in action. Since the pair have already collaborated with Universal on the upcoming movie “M3gan.” Which is an unhinged thriller about an artificial intelligence doll running amock. When she isn’t hacking everyone to pieces she is showing off her killer TikTok dance moves. Sometimes she does both just to spice things up.
