Lupita Nyong’o May Star in “A Quiet Place: Day One”

Fresh off of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Lupita Nyong’o may possibly star in the upcoming prequel film, “A Quiet Place: Day One.” While very little is known about this project, a few things have been confirmed.

Namely, “Pig” writer/director Michael Sarnoski will be directing. We also know “A Quiet Place: Day One” will NOT be part of a threequel to 2018’s “A Quiet Place” and 2020’s “A Quiet Place Part II.” Instead, it will be a spinoff of John Krasinski’s original idea. This is also probably why Krasinski will not be directing as he has for the other 2 films.

    “A Quiet Place” (Paramount)

It seems Paramount is looking to turn this into more a Quiet Place universe. The film will just take place in a world where Earth has been invaded by monstrous blind aliens. Monsters that rely on sound in order to track their prey so everyone must stay silent, or risk death.

While the first 2 films specifically focused on one family, breaking away from that would give the option to tell a lot more stories. This is also why it is unlikely that Krasinski and Emily Blunt will reprise their roles from the 2018 and 2020 films. While an appearance by either isn’t impossible, them staying out of it would help this movie establish itself as a different entity. It’s also not like we haven’t already seen Nyong’o’s horror star power in Jordan Peel‘s “Us.”

But this isn’t the only addition to the franchise that is in the works. Krasinski IS currently working on a 3rd film for the original series. Which he will be directing, and is set to come out sometime in 2025. At this point, no one seems sure if films directly related the original two will stop. Considering “A Quiet Place Part II” was the first Covid-era theatrical-only release, and it still opened to $57 million at the domestic box office. It has also earned $297 million worldwide and holds a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. It would be kind of silly to kill the golden goose while experimenting with other places this franchise could go.

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is set to hit theaters on March 8th, 2024. Stay tuned to Nerdbot for more developments on this project as they become available.
