“Frasier” Revival Ordered to Series at Paramount+

If you don’t know how we feel about the sitcom “Frasier,” then you must be intentionally dodging our coverage at this point. We talk about that show a LOT here, and not just in articles. One of the most successful sitcoms of all time, and arguably the most successful spin-off of all time, the depth of our love for it shows no bounds. We’re not alone on this either. The number of “Frasier” memes that get tossed around the internet along with continued success in syndication and streaming could only mean one thing- a revival!

Paramount+ gave the planned revival of the “Cheers” successor the greenlight back in February of 2021. Now, they’ve gone a step further and received a series pick-up. What’s the difference? Basically, a pickup means Kelsey Grammer and company are not just pushing a pilot to gauge interest, the series is officially happening.

Grammer said the script was being worked on back in July. Writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli are attached as writers, with Grammer attached as executive producer. Don’t be surprised if he also ends up directing some episodes as well. In the later seasons of “Frasier”, he became a frequent director, and has continued working in that capacity for other programs; including the ill-fated “Partners.”

In terms of the content, we’re still not really sure what the show will be about. All we know is Frasier Crane will be living in a new location, and there’s still no word about any previous characters and actors returning. One possible story line or recurring theme could easily revolve around the passing of his father, Martin Crane. The late John Mahoney played Frasier and Niles’ dad for the entirety of the series. Sadly, Mahoney passed away in 2018. It’s hard to imagine the revival not acknowledging that in some way.

. The quality of “Frasier” episodes dipped hard in the later seasons. It would be nice if this revival could pick up that quality and give Frasier’s misadventures a better note to end on. We’ll keep our sherry glasses ready as the series readies for a Paramount+ release, presumably in 2023.

We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news. You can stream “Frasier” on Paramount+ now.
