“Marvel’s Daredevil” star Vincent D’Onofrio will be releasing a children’s book called “Pigs Can’t Look Up,” based on one of his tweets that happened to go viral.

The inspiration comes from a tweet he posted on April 20th, 2019. It was retweeted 30,000 times.

    Pigs can't look up.
But I could pick a pig up one night and raise it into the sky and tilt this pig ever so gentle. I can make sure this pigs eyes line up with the stars. Imagine seeing the stars 4the first time.I want 2b treated that kindly and see the stars for the first time.

D’Onofrio and mixed media artist Shelly Cunningham have turned this sweet story into an entire book. “Pigs Can’t Look Up” is about a little girl who forges a bond with a pig on her farm. She takes note of the unfair truth that because their bodies evolved to forage for food on the ground, pigs can’t look up. Inspired by empathy, the little girl determines and plots to hoist the pig up to see the stars, and in doing so, sees herself.

“Pigs Can’t Look Up” will be a debut picture book for Cunningham, a Portland-based illustrator. D’Onofrio previously wrote “Mutha: Stuff and Things,” a compilation of his musings, in 2021.

“This is what happens when I’m idle. This is the kind of thing that goes on when I’m idle,” D’Onofrio told ComicBook after “Mutha: Stuff and Things” was released. “When I’m not taking care of my sons and talking to my daughter, and when I’m not acting, I have to stick my nose into something and so, this became the thing. And now I write every day. It’s just endless.”

“Pigs Can’t Look Up” is available for pre-order, and is set to release on May 16, 2023. It will be available in both hardcover and Kindle versions.
