    Glass: Unbreakable Trailer Breakdown

The new trailer for Glass has been released. Fans are excited for M. Night Shyamalan’s third installment into the Unbreakable series. Here is a quick summation for those of you who have not seen any of the Unbreakable films.

Shyamalan is known for his plot twists. I will try not to be too detailed in my summaries. At this point if you have not seen Split, the Shyamalan twist has already been ruined for you. If somehow it has not (I don’t know how that’s possible if you are reading this, but just to be safe) beware of spoilers ahead.

    Unbreakable

David Dunn (Bruce Willis) was the star of the first installment “Unbreakable”. In the film Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) is convinced that Dunn has super-human abilities. He believes this because Price himself suffers from a condition that makes him fragile to everything. His own frailty leads him to believe that there must be someone that is the opposite of himself. Someone who doesn’t get injured. Someone, dare I say it…Unbreakable! The film concludes with Dunn and Price at odds with each other (I’m trying not to spoil too much).

    Split

Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy) has multiple identities living within him. One identity at a time controls him by “taking the light”. The different identities are extremely different from each other. Some of the identities are split into a faction that believes in an additional identity called “The Beast”. They believe that “The Beast” has super-human abilities and a hunger for human lives. The film centers on the plight of Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy). Cooke is held captive by Crumb and attempts to survive as the events unfold.

    Glass (Trailers)

At this point, two trailers have been released for Glass. The three main characters are in an institution. Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) states that she is conducting treatments on the three in order to cure them of their beliefs of super-human abilities. As the trailer picks up the pace, Cooke is shown to have an interaction with Crumb. Price and Crumb are shown escaping the facility. Dunn follows soon after.

    Prediction

All events suggest a climactic battle between the three main characters. Whether or not this will be the conclusion to the Unbreakable series remains to be seen. I theorize that Shyamalan will draw out the setup in the first two acts. Establishing the setting will take too long. The third act will be rife with action. The conclusion will be packed with thematic realizations. That’s the Shyamalan formula. I personally am a fan and look forward to being surprised by the unexpected twist.
