Man on Airplane Annoys Mike Tyson, Gets Punched for it

There’s a story that has been told for many years involving a scorpion and a frog. The scorpion wants to cross the river and asks the frog if he can ride on his back. The frog refuses stating that the scorpion would just sting him and kill him. The scorpion counters back though, but if I did that while we were in the water, I would drown and we’d both die. The frog, seeing this logic, agrees to carry the scorpion. Halfway across the river the scorpion stings the frog and they both start to drown. “Why,” asks the frog, “why would you do that?” The scorpion replies “because it’s in my nature.”

On a related note, a guy on an airplane kept bothering Mike Tyson over and over and then Tyson punched him.

This incident happened on a plane scheduled to leave San Francisco on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022.

In a video posted by TMZ, you can see a man sitting behind the former heavyweight champion repeatedly bothering him and seemingly nonsensically taunting him. Another passenger is recording, seemingly amused by his antics which may have resulted in egging him on. The person recording the altercation also claims that the man was just asking Tyson for his autograph, which he was clearly not in the video.

Further reporting from TMZ indicates that witnesses stated Tyson was originally very cordial to the gentleman, greeting them, taking a selfie with one of them, and getting settled into his seat as the boarding process was continuing. As the unidentified gentleman continued to irritate Tyson, the boxing champ told him to “chill”- advice that apparently went unheeded. The end result was Tyson turning around to punch the man in the face multiple times. As the plane was still on the ground though, Tyson then exited the aircraft.

Tyson’s representatives claimed the man on the plane threw a water bottle at Mike in addition to harassing him. There is no video of THAT part occurring. The victim of the punching was medically treated, and reported the incident to the police.

According to an update from TMZ, the man was pretty uncooperative with said officers. The investigation continues.

It’s interesting in a sense that this incident happens not long after the debate surrounding Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscar ceremony. Is there a level of acceptable violence so to say? Was Tyson justified in attacking a man who wouldn’t leave him alone, especially if the man hit him with a water bottle? Given that Tyson was a professional boxer, doesn’t that mean his punches would be far more dangerous than a non-athlete? Could he have just reported the behavior to a flight attendant?

Should we receive more details about the incident or any charges regarding it, we’ll be sure to update.
