93% of Parents Planning to go Trick-Or-Treating This Year

A recent survey from the National Confectioners Association found that 93% of young parents are planning to take their kids trick or treating. 82% are sure they can find safe ways to trick-or-treat given the current pandemic. And 80% overall are going to trick-or-treat this year.

The President and CEO of NCA John Downs had this to say about the findings:

“As the world continues to shift around us, Halloween is a constant that can bring us joy and excitement by helping people embrace time-honored traditions and create new experiences. The Halloween season has always been about people, traditions and celebrations. Whether people celebrate with a classic night of trick-or-treating or other creative ways of enjoying the season throughout October, this season is all about how we Halloween.”

    Safety Concerns

Of course the first concern for parents is COVID-19, and social distancing while trick-or-treating. Last year was a total bust, and this year kids and parents are looking forward to celebrating the holiday.

Every community across the country will have a different approach to celebrating the Halloween season. That could mean spending more time getting creative with Halloween plans or just more time celebrating the season throughout the entire month of October. There are plenty of fun and unique approaches to enjoying the Halloween season in ways that work for consumers and their families – whether that’s fun from a distance, Halloween at home, or something in between.

    Solutions

There are also plenty of things out now that will help celebrate the season. At Target they have costumes with masks already built into them. There was a tiger head that had ears and a mask that covered the nose and mouth appropriately. They also had long sticks with hands and a net sewn in so that kids could stick them out and people handing out candy could plop it in the net. A really cool way to encourage social distancing and a neat solution if you ask me.

Other people have done things like build a candy chute out of PVC pipe and a couple of wooden stakes. Or implemented a pulley system so that they could wheel out a basket of candy and wheel it back up again. Point is people are getting creative and this Halloween is on. Unless the CDC imposes some emergency measures, most people will be out enjoying the night time.
