The saying “They can’t all be winners” goes for movies too. During a recent interview, actor Tom Holland called some of his past films “shit.” Continuing his long tradition of saying the quiet part out loud.
“When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy,” he told the Dish Podcast about his current role in The Odyssey, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. “Because when they ask you questions about why should people go and watch this movie, you’re not lying to anyone. You really feel like people should go see it.”
“I’ve had experiences before when people say like, ‘Why should you see this movie?’ And in the back of your mind, you’re like, ’You shouldn’t cuz it’s shit,” he adds with a laugh.
The hosts didn’t push for him to name projects. So he wisely got back to talking about how proud he is of his current work. Our guesses are Chaos Walking, Uncharted, and Dolittle. All 3 of which did poorly with critics and received mixed (at best) reviews with audiences. But at least 2020’s Dolittle pairs him with old MCU pal Robert Downey Jr.
Thankfully, he isn’t saying that about the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day or The Odyssey, which is currently in theaters. He has nothing but praise for both of those projects, referring to them as a “victory lap” in the same interview.
