Since 2000, Tubi FrightFest has become a hub for discovering original horror films. Helping launch the careers of directors like Simon Rumley, Christopher Smith, Eli Roth, Neil Marshall, and Simon Hunter. Now the surreal psychosexual thriller Electric Meat, written and directed by Dan Schaffer (Doghouse), will make its world premiere there. The film stars Caspian Faye (Cat Skin), Emily Booth (Evil Aliens), and Nina Courson, making her feature film debut.
The film centers around a photographer who is working a day job as a butcher when he finds one of his models murdered in an alley. Being comfortable around dead meat, decides to keep her as his muse to help his failing career. However, he soon becomes convinced that she is somehow both alive and dead, like Schrödinger’s cat. Slowly changing from a posable doll to a vengeful revenant. Desperate, he reaches out to his landlady, an ex-model with a grudge. The problem is she is dangerous, unhinged, and takes his work in a whole new psychotic direction.
“It’s a thrill to have the world premiere of Electric Meat on our home turf in London at one of the world’s leading horror festivals,” says Schaffer. “FrightFest has long championed bold and innovative genre cinema and we’re honoured to have Electric Meat become part of that tradition.”
Schaffer’s film chooses not to use any dialogue. Instead, it has a meticulously constructed soundtrack developed by the filmmaker, composer Jacob Ryman, and singer Katiejane Garside.
