So, a director, an actor, and a producer all get trapped on an elevator in L.A. That’s not the start of some weird joke; it’s what really happened. After a Bottle Rocket 30th-anniversary event held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Wes Anderson, Luke Wilson, and James L. Brooks became trapped in an elevator.

They remained stuck inside for about 30 minutes before the Los Angeles Fire Department got them out. The thrilling rescue was shared by Carolyn Dunn, a production specialist for 20th Century Fox.
In the few-second clip, we see them all safely walk off the elevator, among a small crowd. Then we see Anderson ask the LAFD why the elevator malfunctioned. “Probably had too much weight in there,” an official responds. Then the Oscar-winning filmmaker thanks them and leaves.
Battle Rocket was Anderson’s 1996 directorial debut, from a script he co-wrote with Owen Wilson. It starred the Wilson brothers, Ned Dowd, and Shea Fowler. It tells the story of 3 friends who plan to pull off a simple robbery and go on the run.
There is no telling what happened in those 30 minutes on that elevator. But we do hope it inspired something for a new movie. Though as calm and collected as he was, we doubt this would trigger Anderson to dive into the world of elevator horror, à la Devil or Down.
