CJ 4DPlex, the Korean developer of cinema technology behind ScreenX and 4DX, is rolling out a brand new premium large format program. It’s called Shot for ScreenX, launching with the release ofSpider-Man: Brand New Day.
This multi-projection format will expand chosen scenes beyond the frame. Projecting onto the sides of auditorium walls, delivering a 270-degree experience for moviegoers. The film will wrap around your theater space, not just in front of it.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the first time CJ 4DPlex has partnered on a project with filmmakers. This partnership spanned from production to distribution to craft visuals for ScreenX. A partnership that began on the set, not in the editing room.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton said, “CJ 4DPlex and their team came to the set to actually shoot the footage that you will experience on screen in the wings of the chosen scenes of our film.” He added, “this is a first.” “It’s something truly unique that nobody has experienced before –you’re going to love it.”
Don Savant, CEO and president of CJ 4DPlex Americas, said the technology would be employed on a limited basis with specific filmmakers. Savant said, “‘Spider-Man’ represents the kind of event franchise that demonstrates the power of premium theatrical formats,” adding the presentation “celebrates the scale, energy and emotional depth of this beloved character.”
Because Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey has an IMAX exclusive across the U.S., there will be no IMAX release for this film. This spans the opening weekend of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Marvel film will therefore be diverted to other premium formats, like ScreenX
ScreenX is an image-in-space cinema experience using multi-projection. It is currently available in 140 multiplexes across the U.S. and Canada. The company is releasing 20 to 30 titles per year in this format.
Advance tickets for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in ScreenX are now on sale at participating theaters and here.
