Why Dog Parents Treat Their Pets Like Main Characters

Some pets are companions. Some are family. For many dog parents, their dog is practically the star of the family show. With all the emotional outbursts and dramatic living room entrances, dogs become the main attraction. Their habits dictate everyone’s schedule, expression and demeanor affects the mood, and their unique personality becomes part of the family identity. Many owners even buy custom gear featuring their pup because the emotional attachment feels deeper than a normal pet-owner relationship.

For modern dog parents, this behavior is to be expected. Dogs are especially no longer the silent sitting pets in the corner. Now they are integrated into the routine, the daily emotional connection, travel companion, and social media engagement. In most modern homes, dogs have taken center stage.

    They Have Full Character Lore

Just as for any key story character, every dog has a story. Dog parents have enough dog character knowledge to explain behavioral responses to family intrusions, favored sleeping positions, and yard barking rituals to the point of scheduled behavioral activity.

Some dogs have wholesome rescue stories. Some have chaotic puppy phases that have become the stuff of family legends. They are legends in their own right, long dismissed behavioral quirks and responses become classic family stories. Some dogs even earn varying personalities, new nicknames, and a legacy for life.

Doggo Mamas and Pappas preserve their pets’ expressive details and characteristics that make even the greatest pets feel like accomplished family members.

    They Get Their Own Merch

Once your pup has their very own cozy bed to snuggle in, and their dog parents have custom gear to match, their obsession is obvious to everyone. They create multi-purpose portraits hung on the wall next to photo accessories. Any dog theme is an emotional statement. Buy dog face emblazoned mugs, face-inspired hoodies, or even whole rooms featuring your dog.

Taking art commissioned to celebrate your pet’s personality or décor and accessories to immortalize your dog’s quirk in concordance with the most celebrated character in your life is as commendable as you think it is.

Most dog parents know that the merchandise looks overly dramatic, and simply don’t mind it.

    They Influence Daily Decisions

There is a literal reason why a main character is called a main character. But dogs are the main characters of a household.

Feeding schedules dictate when family members eat breakfast. Weekend agendas promote whole new experiences to family members. A road trip is consumed trying to find a place that your dog can visit to the ends of the Earth.

Even the smallest daily habits are impacted. Some people completely rearrange the layout of the house, so the dog has couch cushions to claim. Or, some people even re-adjust their daily schedule to accommodate the dog’s exercise and bedtime. Dogs influence people’s daily choices more than people realize.

Many people do not understand the influence their pet has until they are told. Then people realize the dog is in control of setting the schedule for everything from when people wake up or eat to when they can go on a social outing and what the dog is going to eat.

This influence seems like an odd control, until people realize the strong emotional connection people have to their pets.

Social Media Turned Pets Into Stars

This strong connection people have to their pets is even more apparent online. Now, many dogs (and pets in general) have social media accounts where they have professional pictures, themed birthday parties, and even some followers.

Some people have turned their dogs into full-fledged online celebrities because they know how to balance online presence and daily life. Their dog has a personality and sometimes even has a running joke, and people want to follow their daily adventures.

Some dogs have so much influence they are sponsored as online influencers. Their marketing is on par, or sometimes even better, than some people online.

For some even average pet owners, having an online presence is so much fun because people’s pets are naturally so expressive and funny, and have such unique personalities that people can relate to.

    Because They’re More Than Pets

At the end of the day, people love their pets. It is all just for fun and emotional attachment.

Being around a dog has so many amazing perks to build a great life with because dogs are your best friends that are always down to hang. They have their sweet nature, and dogs become a huge part of your memories. Dogs are not “just a pet” after you spend countless moments of your life with them. Dogs are family, with personality and feelings.

Dogs are literally the examples of best friends who are hilarious, emotional, and loyal. Dogs may be companions, but they have a place in your life that is more than just a pet. Wanting to make your dog the center of attention is naturally part of your bond.

    Conclusion

You may be a dramatic owner and proclaim your favorite pet the main character with your favorite stories, but every dog and every dog parent is different. Ultimately, pet owners would not have it any other way.
