“Stuart Fails to Save the Universe” Gets July Premiere Window on HBO Max

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, the newest spin-off from The Big Bang Theory universe, has a launch window. The HBO Max show will debut in July but the exact date hasn’t been confirmed.

The news came out on CCXP Mexico City where Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie revealed new concept art and first-look pictures. The show’s first-look images were also revealed at the event.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will be the first spinoff set after the events of The Big Bang Theory. Created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, the series will be the fourth television entry in the Big Bang Theory franchise.

Comic book store owner Stuart Bloom is tasked with restoring reality after breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, accidentally triggering a multiverse Armageddon. Stuart is aided by girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet alternate-universe versions of beloved Big Bang Theory characters. As the title implies, things don’t go well.

    Sussman returns

Sussman returns as the titular character he played across 11 seasons of The Big Bang Theory. He’s joined by Lapkus as Denise, Bowie as Barry Kripke, and Posehn as Bert.

It was also confirmed that Emmy and Grammy-winning composer Danny Elfman will create the series’ original theme music. Danny Elfman is known for over 100 film scores. This includes a 40-year collaboration with Tim Burton. They worked on films like Batman and Edward Scissorhands. He also created iconic TV themes for The Simpsons and Wednesday.

In February 2026, Lorre described the show as a “science fiction action-adventure comedy.” Lorre also addressed the creative shift, with the producer saying, “I wanted to do something radical that would take me out of my comfort zone. Something the characters on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ would have loved, hated and argued about.”

Co-creator Prady also weighed in, saying, “The process of writing this show with Chuck and Zak has been damn fun, and I’m certain that joy will come through the screen,” adding that blending the show’s sci-fi mythology with comedy has been “incredibly satisfying.”

When asked whether Big Bang Theory leads Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki might appear, given that Sheldon and Leonard are referenced in the plot, Lorre said that he “cannot speak to that.” Neither Parsons nor Galecki has commented publicly on a possible return,. But both Kunal Nayyar and Kaley Cuoco have said they would be happy to cameo if called.

All 10 episodes of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will stream exclusively on HBO Max. A specific premiere date beyond July is still pending.
