Here we go! We’ve arrived at our second animated Super Mario Bros. movie. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has not been earning critical raves but fans seem to be enjoying it. Its also opened up possibilities for more and more Nintendo characters. The reveal that Star Fox hero, Fox McCloud is in the film was a big deal. Glen Powell seemed to just sneak his way in there and blow the doors open for other franchises. But there’s still a few mainline Mario characters we haven’t seen yet. Luigi’s voice actor, Charlie Day has some thoughts on one of them.

If you’ve hung around the Mario franchise long enough then you know that his biggest human antagonist is none other than Wario. The short, squat, garlic chomping, yellow and purple clad nemesis premiered in 1992. He was the primary villain in the Game Boy title, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Since then he’s gone on to appear in virtually every Mario spin-off including most Super Mario Kart games, every other sports title, and just about every Party that Mario has ever thrown. And, unlike Bowser, Wario’s had multiple games starring himself. You’ve got the Wario Land series and WarioWare as two examples.
Former Mario voice actor, Charles Martinet also played Wario, but the current voice actor for Luigi has a new suggestion. The aforementioned Charlie Day knows the perfect casting choicehttps://screenrant.com/wario-super-mario-movie-casting-pitch-danny-devito-charlie-day/. He’s not wrong about it either, even if it’s a slightly predictable selection. His pick, Danny DeVito. It makes sense. DeVito kind of already has the Wario body type happening for him. One could even argue that his character of Louie DePalma from Taxi kind of was Wario running a taxi dispatch.

The two actors have worked together on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia for years. So really, it would just be something of a continued partnership for the two. Hell, now that we think about it, Glenn Howerton kind of has that Waluigi look to him… But we digress. As Charlie stated in an interview with ScreenRant, “Danny would fit so well in this universe, and he would be a good Wario, I think.” He’s not wrong either. DeVito has done voice acting on numerous occasions. Anyone who watched Disney’s Hercules growing up knows him as Phil.
Of course, this is assuming that Wario even gets introduced into the films at some point. We’re fairly confident it has to happen at some point. Then again, we’re still waiting for Waluigi as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Maybe we shouldn’t get our hopes up quite yet!
