In 2014, Alice Oseman released the novel Solitaire. Throughout the writing process, she fell in love with two side characters, Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring. In 2015, she wrote the novellas Nick and Charlie and This Winter, exploring the couple’s backstory. These books laid the groundwork for what would become the Heartstopper graphic novels. This series was then developed by Netflix into a show in 2022, which ran for 3 seasons.
Now, Oseman is giving fans some hints about when we may see the film finale, Heartstopper Forever.

Heartstopper Forever
“It won’t be coming out before the book,” she told Deadline via a Q&A session at the London Book Fair. “It was so important to me that the book comes out first, so people can experience the end of the story in the book. The series was the adaptation, not the other way around.”
Oseman’s final book in the series isn’t slated to come out until July 2nd. So, don’t expect to see Heartstopper Forever hit Netflix before then
While many sets keep writers away like the plague, Oseman wrote the script for the Wash Westmoreland-directed movie. Even dropping a few tidbits on where the project is at since it wrapped in July 2025.
“We are literally days away from it being finished,” she explains. “We are doing the final little bits of VFX and animation, and hopefully by the end of next week is going to be sent to be dubbed in various languages and quality-checked by Netflix, but my work on it will be done.”
While plot details are being kept under wraps, the logline for the last book gives some hints on where the story is heading. “Everyone in school knows Nick and Charlie. Everyone knows they’re going to be together forever. But Charlie’s busy with his bid to become head boy. And while Nick is preparing to leave for uni, he’s starting to wonder who he’ll be… without Charlie.”
