Every fandom has its unjustly canceled shows and for sci-fi enthusiasts, Firefly is one a huge sore spot. Fans and even the cast have been begging for a revival since Fox’s legendary mishandling of the series. Airing episodes (including the pilot) out of order, changing time slots, and then using low ratings to justify canceling it after one season.
Now series star Nathan Fillion (Captain Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds) is teasing browncoats with some serious Firefly news on March 15th.

The whole campaign started on February 23rd, Fillion posted a video of himself knocking on the door of Gina Torres (Zoë Washburne). The two both agree that “It’s time” before looking up at the sky. Then both cryptically nodding.
February 25th’s video had a more heated exchange with Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra). Fillion shows up to her home dressed as his character in ABC’s The Rookie. Baccarin answers dressed as her character on CBS’ Fire Country and spinoff, Sheriff Country. In true Inara fashion she calls him a “son of a bitch.” The pair then agree “We’re doing this” and nod at each other.
On March 1st he posted a video of a visit with Sean Maher (Simon Tam), who initially assumed he was trying to sell something. Like the previous videos they agree “It’s happening” before nodding at each other.
Of course, the first 2 videos were enough to rile fans up with theories. However, Fillion clarifies what it won’t be in the comments. “Some of you have guessed convention, podcast, or cross-over. You are wrong,” it reads. Which is leading fans to the theory of a full on revival, though most would have been happy with the aforementioned suggestions.
On March 3rd, a video was posted of Fillion coming to Summer Glau’s (River Tam) home. They agree that the day has finally come. “I knew it would,” Glau remarks, poking fun at her character’s abilities as a reader. Not to mention her knack for freaking Fillion’s character out. Cue cryptic nodding.
The Last Tease
Then on March 5th he posted a video of a visit to Jewel Staite (Kaylee Frye), who agrees with a trademark “Shiny.” Before the duo decide to have an awkward nod-off. In the caption Fillion finally gave us some closure on when we’ll be finding out what this is all about.
“I was hoping you would say that … an announcement is coming on Sunday, March 15.”
All 5 videos were posted on the Instagram page of the Once We Were Spacemen podcast. A show Fillion co-hosts with former Firefly co-star Alan Tudyk. Unfortunately, Tudyk’s character Hoban “Wash” Washburne, probably can’t conodically return if this is a full on revival (that doesn’t retcon the movie and comics).
We’ll keep you posted on whatever the big March 15th announcement is.
