Disney has released the first teaser trailer for its live-action remake of “Moana.” Based on the 2016 animated film of the same name, this version brings all the characters to life.
The footage is a lot of what you’d expect with sweeping shots of gorgeous CGI beaches and seemingly endless ocean. We see our heroine sailing along belting out “How Far I’ll Go,” one of the songs star Auli’i Cravalho sang in the animated version. After some quick shots, including one of her beloved chicken, the teaser ends with the now iconic proclamation; “I am Moana!”

The live-action “Moana” is directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail, from a script by Jared Bush who wrote the original film, and Dana Ledoux Miller.
2016’s “Moana” is set in ancient Polynesia, where the demigod Maui incurs a horrible curse. His misdeeds begin to affect a small island where a young girl named Moana lives with her family. Compelled by the call of the ocean she goes on a quest to seek out Maui and set things right.

It stars newcomer Catherine Laga’aia in the titular role, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returning as the infamous demigod Maui. John Tui stars as Moana’s father Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as her mother Sina, and Rena Owen will portray Gramma Tala

The live-action “Moana” is slated to hit theaters on July 10, 2026. You can check out the first teaser trailer below:
