“The Conjuring” HBO Series Names Showrunner, Writers

Horror franchises have come and gone over the decades. The longer they live on, the less reliable they tend to be at the box office. Don’t tell that to “The Conjuring” franchise though. Eleven years after its first film and its most recent entry, “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” has picked up its biggest box office opening for the franchise as a whole. Warner Bros.is hoping for continued success with its upcoming HBO Max series of the same name, that now has its showrunner and writers set to go.

Even though Warner Bros. has been tight lipped about the plot details, they’ve taken on a team of creatives that know their way around genre writing and tightly written series. Nancy Won will be taking on the role of showrunner for the upcoming horror series. Won has previously written for a variety of shows including “Sunny,” “Little Fires Everywhere,” and “Jessica Jones.” Fittingly enough, the two writers confirmed for the series also have worked with Marvel properties.

Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires have found themselves in the same writing room for shows like “Agatha All Along” and “WandaVision.” Cameron also wrote for “Werewolf by Night,“ with Squires lending his skills to “Agent Evils” and “Star Wars: The Acolyte.” It’s a good mix of talent that seems like it would lend itself well to a horror series like The Conjuring. Even if we don’t know the plot details, we do know it’s supposed to follow the narrative set by the films, which should keep fans engaged enough to see how things play out.

Given how popular the franchise has remained between itself and its spin-offs, we look forward to continuing to update you as we learn more. Until then, you can watch “The Conjuring: Last Rites” in theaters now.
