Academy Award-winner Martin Scorsese will be the focus of an upcoming 5-part docuseries from Apple TV+. The streamer just released a sneak-peek of “Mr. Scorsese,” giving insight into how the movie “Taxi Driver” came to be.

“Mr. Scorsese,” directed by Rebecca Miller, will focus on how his unique early life experiences formed his one of a kind style. Looking at his work from his time as a New York University film student through to the present day.

“This project is a filmmaker’s dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends and family members,” said Miller. “I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for stars. I’m excited to share a sneak peek of ‘Mr. Scorsese,’ which includes the true version of a mythic (a never-before-told) story about ‘Taxi Driver,’ and how, thanks to Marty’s perseverance and dedication to his art, the film retained its integrity and went on to become one of the most culturally significant films of all time.”

In the sneak peak Scorsese and long time friend/collaborator Steven Spielberg talk about an attempt to censor “Taxi Driver.” When the film was deemed too violent, Scorsese was hopping mad and even threatened to buy a gun. (Though he admits he wouldn’t have done anything if he got one). Once he cooled down they worked out a way to keep the film intact and appease censors without using firearms.

The documentary was created with exclusive, unrestricted access to the legendary filmmaker’s private archives. It will also contain never-before-seen interviews with friends, family and creative collaborators including Spielberg, Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Jay Cocks, and Rodrigo Prieto. Alongside interviews with his children and wife Helen Morris.

“Mr. Scorsese” will premiere on Apple TV+ on October 17th, 2025. You can check out the sneak peek below:
