Eli Roth’s “Hostel” in Development at Peacock as Series

In June 2024, news broke of a TV series based on the “Hostel” franchise with creator Eli Roth (“Borderlands”) writing/executive producing, and Paul Giamatti (“The Holdovers”) starring. Then, as these things often go, radio silence in terms of news, until now…

On July 31st, the NBCUniversal streamer Peacock confirmed that it would be developing the upcoming show!

Giamatti and Roth are still attached alongside franchise veteran producers Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss. When news of the project first broke, Briggs was attached to direct in addition to executive producing. However, it seems that Roth will now be directing. (This early into development, it’s possible that both will direct, depending on the episode).

While Giamatti’s role and plot details are still under wraps, it’s assumed the series will continue the “Hostel” legacy. The first film in 2006 followed the plight of several tourists who are kidnapped by a mysterious group known as the Elite Hunting Club. This Eastern European operation is home to an insanely rich clientele who like to pay to torture and murder abductees from local hostels.

Roth wrote, produced, and directed the film along with the 2007 follow-up “Hostel: Part II.” “Hostel: Part III” was a direct-to-video release in 2011 directed by Scott Spiegel (“Intruder”) and made without Roth’s involvement.

We’ll keep you posted on news about Peacock’s upcoming “Hotel” series as it develops.
