    Larry David Returns to HBO with American History Sketch Show

    HBO and Larry David go back a long ways. Over 25 years ago the writer/producer/actor teamed with the network to create “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and planted itself as one of the most renowned television comedies of all time. The show wrapped up in 2024 and since then, Larry’s been a bit quiet in terms of the television front. Good news for his fans as that will be changing soon with the help of former POTUS Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

    The Obamas founded a production company called Higher Ground, and have roped in Larry David to create a sketch comedy show to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Right now, the show is untitled, but is set to bring David back to working with his former executive producer on “Curb,” Jeff Schaffer. They’ll be writing the series together with Schaffer also handling directorial duties.

    Along with writing, Larry will also be in front of the camera again too. “The characters Larry is playing didn’t change history,” Schaffer said. “In fact, they were largely ignored by history. And that’s a good thing.” Even though there haven’t been any plot details announced, it sounds like the series is going to feature Larry and some other actors from “Curb” portraying events that took place in America’s history. But given David’s comedic tastes, these may be events that range from inconsequential to impacting history in a way we never could’ve imagined.

    HBO is clearly thrilled to be working with David again. “It’s hard to remember a time before ‘Curb’ or without Larry David’s perspective on modern life,” executive vice-president and head of HBO and HBO Max programming Amy Gravitt said. “We’re thrilled that Larry is coming back to HBO, this time with Higher Ground, to give us a glimpse at our shared history as we celebrate our Semiquincentennial.”
