The release of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is just around the corner, and the advertising is in full swing. This 4th of July weekend, the film has a Dread Lobster food truck rolling around L.A. and South Beach. Now, The Fisherman was spotted on live surf cams at Huntington Beach.

The 23-second clip shows someone strolling along the boardwalk when they notice The Fisherman ambling behind them. In true horror film fashion, our potential victim begins to run while the would-be slasher slowly pursues. To keep everything family-friendly, the clip cuts before any (fake) carnage is shown; it is a public beach after all.

The latest addition to the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise is directed by Robinson, from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. Their screenplay is based on a draft by Leah McKendrick (“Scrambled”). Jennifer Love Hewitt (“9-1-1”) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (“The Girl in the Pool”) will reprise their roles from the first two films. Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, and Billy Campbell (“The Rocketeer”) will bring new blood to the franchise.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer”

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” will follow a similar plotline to the 1997 film, based on Lois Duncan‘s 1973 novel of the same name. It tells the story of four friends  (Prinze Jr, Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe) who accidentally run over someone. Panicked, they decide to dispose of the body in the ocean and vow never to speak of the incident again. That is, until a year later, when the group starts getting cryptic messages about their dark secret. Eventually, they get killed off one by one by a mysterious person armed with a hook.

In this next installment, the new crop of teens has the benefit of legacy characters who have faced The Fisherman.

This will be the 4th film in the franchise alongside 1998’s “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” and 2006’s “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.” As well as an Amazon Prime Video series that launched in 2021.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer”  will hit theaters on July 18th, 2025. You can check out the trailer and Huntington Beach footage below:
