CD Projekt Red made an exciting announcement after their Cyberpunk: Edgerunners — Behind the Scenes With Its Creators panel at Anime Expo. Story writer/producer Bartosz Sztybor and director Hiroyuki Imaishi confirmed that “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” is in production!
However, Imaishi will be stepping down as director, with Kai Ikarashi (“SSSS.Gridman”) making their debut.

“Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” has Kanno Ichigo (“Promare”) as lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka (“Gurren Lagann”) writing the screenplay. It will be a 10-episode standalone series made in collaboration with TRIGGER.
“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City,” said Sztybor, Showrunner, Story Writer, and Producer. “And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before.”
While we have no idea what “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” may be about at this time. Sztybor recently laid out a rather odd goal he had for season one…to bum us all out. “I’m from Poland,” he tweeted. “People in Poland are sad. They are born sad, they die sad, so I just wanted to make the whole world sad… when people are sad, then I’m a bit happy.”
So it’s anyone’s guess what he has in store for us now.
There is currently no release window set for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2,” but it’s assumed it will debut on Netflix in the future.
